I have all of one white golf shirt in my closet. I don’t like white shirts because they stain so easily. Further, since I only have one I am reluctant to wear it because that shirt alone prevents me from leaving whites in the drier overnight, which i would prefer do. So I would say that have worn that shirt to work maybe six or seven times.
Today was one of those days. Today was also the only day in recorded history that there was apparently a ban on white shirts at work. For some reason the company has decided to take photos for IDs. No one really knows why since with the exception of technical support we’re a small enough company that we know each other and we’re not really in a business where corporate espionage is going to be an issue. These things are really going to be a pain in the petard. Now, what in the world these things had to do with one another I don’t know, but they said no white shirts for the pictures. We thought it was maybe because there was going to be a white background, but the background was a hideous shade of green.
In any event, the session for N-Z last names wasn’t until after lunch so I would have a trip to the store and pick up a new shirt for lunch. At first I was going to go to TJ Maxx, but then I decided that I absolutely hate Chinese factory workers and the Americans whose job they’re displacing, so I would go to Walmart instead (besides, I needed to pick up some batteries and a new cell phone case). Then at around 11:00 or so the HR person came buy and said that they were going to finish up even N-Z before lunch and that my white shirt wasn’t a problem.
Unfortunately at my height (and with a long torso to boot) I was too tall for the camera and I couldn’t get within it without looking like I was majorly slouching (which, if course, I was). The result was that I kicked the chair out from under me and kneeled on the floor.
I have a feeling that my Employee ID card is going to show a very annoyed-looking Will Truman.

Sorry to shatter your illusion, but Wally World is second to none when it comes to selling underpaid-foreign-labor products.

That was a (perhaps poor) attempt at a joke. I hate Chinese factory workers, so I buy clothes from the entities that exploit them.

Now I get it. What I can’t figure out is why I didn’t get it right away.
