I had a layover in Real-Life Salt Lake City’s airport. I’ve mentioned previously that SLC is actually one of the most smoker-friendly airports in the country. It’s unexpected, though there are reasons for it. In any event, when you go into the smoking room in the Salt Lake City airport, you end up talking to other smokers how amazing it is that the SLC airport is smoking friendly. People come, people go, and the people coming say “Holy crap. I’m smoking in the Salt Lake City airport.” And the conversation starts all over again.
I was also reminded that, for reasons that go beyond lighting something on fire in order to breathe the smoke, smokers are a crazy bunch. And kind of delusional.
Another thing noteworthy: I’d guess less than 1 in 10 Americans who came and went from that room had a college degree.
I’ll confess that I could have easily gone the layover without smoking. Part of me was there precisely because I was in Utah. I got coffee for the same reasons. Double the sin.

I lost a friendship because I made a comment about how stupid someone looked. His PCness got the better of him.

I agree, HS has been on a bit of a role. It’s kind of agitating, actually. He gets on a role and puts out a bunch of interesting stuff, but I don’t have time to read it. But when he slows downs, most of his posts are bland retreads and “I was right”s and I’m not all that interested in reading them.
